Newman grapes have contributed to such notable wines as Chateau St. Jean’s 1996 Cinq Cepages which was Wine Spectator’s Wine of the Year in 1999, and Newman Merlot grapes constitute over 50% of the grapes in Chateau St. Jean's highly regarded Reserve Merlot Sonoma County. More recently Francis Ford Coppola Winery honored Peter Newman with vineyard designate bottlings in 2012 and 2014, Newman Vineyards Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon-Knights Valley. The 2014 earned Gold, 91 Points-2017 Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition. Coppola writes of the 2014, “It’s a perfect example of how excellent farming practices combined with good soil and climate work to create impressive reserve level wines with vintage to vintage consistency”. Further, in 2013, Coppola sourced the Cabernet Franc grapes for their highly acclaimed I Mille 2013 varietal bottling solely from Newman Vineyards.
